Jagiellonian বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, Kraków (UJ)

Founded 1364 by Casimir the Great on the model of the universities of Padua and Bologna. Reorganized 1400 by Ladislaus Jagiello on the pattern of the Sorbonne. Copernicus studied at the university in the 15th century. Reorganized in the 19th century in keeping with the ideas of rationalism. University closed and nearly two hundred professors were deported during the German occupation 1939. Operated as an underground university with 800 students after 1942. Extensive reconstruction began after 1945. Acquired present status and title 1964.
