Created 1996 as Academy 'Kontinent', renamed Akademija Sotsialno-Ekonomičeskogo Razvitija (Academy of Socio-Economic Development) in 2007, became Gumanitarno-ekonomicheskij i Tekhnologicheskij Institut (Institute for the Humanities and Economics) in 2012. Acquired current title in 2016.
