Created 1993 as Gosudarstvennaja Akademija Sfery Byta i Uslug (State Academy of Service). Became Moskovskij Gosudarstvennyj Universitet Servisa (Moscow State University of Service) in 1999. Acquired current title 2007. Created to deliver multi-level education in the fields of tourism and the service industries as well as training and retraining for professionals.
