Founded 1969 as Krasnojarskij Gosudarstvennyj Universitet (branch of the Novosibirsk State University and Tomsk State University). Acquired current status and title 2006 when formed as Federal University with: Krasnojarskij Gosudarstvennyj Tehničeskij Universitet, Krasnojarskaja Gosudarstvennaja Arhitekturno-Stroitel'naja Akademija, and Gosudarstvennyj Universitet Tsvetnykh Metallov i Zolota.
