Founded 1716 as School of Mining and Metallurgy at Jáchymov in Bohemia, became part of the Charles University of Prague 1763. Moved to Slovakia 1770 as Mining Academy, Banská Štiavnica, and Příbram, Bohemia 1849. Acquired university status 1904 and moved to present location in Ostrava 1945.
