Founded 1981 as the University of East Asia (UEA), restructured 1988 to become the public University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute and the privately-owned East Asia Open Institute (Macau). Renamed 1992 Asia International Open University (Macau) by collaboration of East Asia Open Institute (Macau) and the Portuguese National Open University, and 2011 Universidade da Cidade de Macau (City University of Macau).
